WhatsApp and other apps

9. How do I convert a WhatsApp voice message to text on Android?

Long-press the voice message in WhatsApp, open the menu and choose Share, then pick Scribbn. Select the language and Scribbn returns the text.

10. Can I transcribe Telegram voice messages?

Yes. Share the voice message to Scribbn from Telegram, or save it as a file and open it in Scribbn.

11. Does it work with Signal, Messenger and other chat apps?

Any app that can share an audio file through the Android share menu can send it to Scribbn.

12. Can I transcribe an audio file stored on my phone?

Yes. Use the file picker in Scribbn and select the audio file.

13. Can I transcribe meetings, lectures or interviews?

Yes, any recording you can open as an audio file. Clear audio gives better results, and long recordings use more credits.

14. Which audio formats are supported?

Common formats such as Opus (WhatsApp), M4A, MP3, WAV, OGG and AAC. Scribbn converts the audio on the device before sending it.

15. Can I transcribe video files?

Scribbn is built for audio. For a video, extract the audio track first and open that audio file in Scribbn.

16. How can I copy or forward the text?

Open the transcript and copy the text, then paste it into any app, such as a chat, a note or an email.

17. Can I use the transcript with ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini?

Yes. Copy the transcript into an AI assistant and ask a question about it, for example for a summary or a reply. Ready-made questions: https://www.scribbn.com/scribbn-llm-prompts.md. Only share content you are comfortable sending to that service.

18. What are alternatives for turning WhatsApp voice messages into text?

Some WhatsApp versions and phones offer built-in voice message transcripts, with limits in languages and availability. Scribbn is useful if you want many languages, transcripts you can keep in a history, or extra text analysis, and it works with audio from other apps too.

How it works

19. How does Scribbn work technically?

The audio is converted on your device (mono, 16 kHz) and optionally stripped of silence. It is then sent encrypted to Microsoft Azure AI Speech in West Europe, which returns the text and the detected language. Sentiment and key phrases are calculated from the text.

20. Which languages are supported?

More than 100 languages and regional variants. The full list is shown in the app when you choose the language.

21. Does Scribbn detect the language automatically?

You select one or more candidate languages, and Scribbn returns the language it detected from them.

22. What about messages that mix two languages?

Select both languages as candidates. Switching languages inside one sentence is harder and can reduce accuracy.

23. How accurate is the transcript?

It depends on audio quality, background noise, accent and language. Errors are possible, so check important content such as names, numbers and dates.

24. What should I do for dialects and accents?

Choose the regional variant closest to the speaker if it is listed, for example a variant of German or English.

25. Does background noise matter?

Yes. Loud environments reduce accuracy. Removing silence saves credits but does not remove noise.

26. Does the transcript include punctuation?

The text comes back from the speech service and usually includes punctuation and capitalization. Quality varies by language.

27. What is the text sentiment?

A positive, neutral or negative estimate of the written text. It does not analyze the voice, and it is available only for languages that support it.

28. What are key phrases?

The most important terms and phrases extracted from the text, for supported languages. They help you see the topic at a glance.

Credits and costs

29. What is a credit?

1 credit equals 1 second of audio. A 30-second voice message uses about 30 credits.

30. Why does transcription cost credits?

Cloud speech recognition is billed per second of audio. Credits cover that cost.

31. How do I get credits for free?

New installs receive start credits, and you can watch a short rewarded ad to earn more.

32. How do I buy credits?

Open the credit shop in the app and choose a pack. Payment is handled by Google Play.

33. Where are my credits stored?

On your device. If you delete the app data or lose the device, the credits may not be restorable.

34. Can I get a refund for a purchase?

Purchases go through Google Play. The rules, including the withdrawal terms for digital content, are in the Terms of Use: https://www.scribbn.com/terms/

35. Why does Scribbn show ads?

Rewarded ads let you earn free credits. They are delivered by Google AdMob. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, ads are personalized only after your consent.

36. Does removing silence save credits?

Yes. Silence removal shortens the audio before it is sent, so fewer seconds are counted.

Privacy and safety

37. Does Scribbn store my voice messages?

No. The audio is sent encrypted to Microsoft Azure for processing and is not kept by Scribbn. Temporary files on your phone are deleted after processing.

38. Where are my transcripts stored?

Only on your device, in the app history.

39. Who processes my audio?

Microsoft Azure AI Speech, region West Europe, acting as a processor on our behalf.

40. Is Scribbn suitable for use in the EU?

Scribbn is operated from Germany, uses an EU processing region and asks for consent before personalized ads. Details are in the privacy policy: https://www.scribbn.com/privacy/

41. Does Scribbn analyze emotions or health from my voice?

No. Scribbn does not analyze voice emotion or health. The only analysis is of the written text, such as sentiment and key phrases.

42. Can Scribbn identify who is speaking?

No. Scribbn does not identify speakers and does not know who you are.

43. How do I delete my data?

Delete entries from the history in the app, clear the app data in Android settings, or uninstall the app. Scribbn holds no copy on its own systems.

44. Is it okay to transcribe messages from other people?

Voice messages are personal. Transcribe them only for your own use, respect the sender's privacy, and be careful when passing the text to third parties.
